Prof Marco Presta studies for a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Milan, Italy between 1984 and 1986. He was a Research Fellow, at the School of Medicine, N.Y.U. Medical Center, N.Y., U.S.A between 1984-87. He was then made a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Brescia, Italy in 1987 followed by Associate Professor in 2000-today and full Professor in General Pathology at the University of Brescia.
His area of research focusses on tumor angiogenesis, FGF/FGFR system in tumor growth, retina neovascularization and antiangiogenic therapies, with specialist techniques in Zebrafish, tumor xenografts, imaging and transgenic animals.
His career highlights are the discovery of the angiogenic activity of FGF2, HMGB1 and gremlin, highlighting FGF trap activity of PTX3 and discovery of the first orally available FGF trap small molecule.
Future directions of his laboratory are around unearthing the role of the FGF/FGFR system in uveal melanoma and hematogenous metastatic dissemination and anti-FGF therapies in multiple myeloma.
