Born in Cordoba, Argentina, Prof. Karina Yaniv immigrated to IBorn in Cordoba, Argentina, Prof. Karina Yaniv immigrated to Israel in 1989. She completed her PhD in developmental biology at the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School in 2005 and conducted postdoctoral research at the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland. She joined the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2009 where she established the Vascular Biology Lab. Prof. Yaniv is the mother of three boys and is actively involved in promoting gender equality in science.
Mission Statement
The Yaniv Lab seeks to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the formation of blood and lymphatic vessels during embryonic development, organogenesis and regeneration. During her postdoctoral studies Dr. Yaniv identified and characterized the well-established lymphatic system of the zebrafish (Nat. Med., 2006), and has since continued studying the cellular origins and molecular mechanisms controlling the formation of lymphatic vessels, at her own lab. Taking advantage of the ability of zebrafish to efficiently regenerate most of their organs, the Yaniv lab investigates the involvement of lymphatic vessels in the processes of tissue inflammation, fibrosis, repair and regeneration.
