She completed doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Following postdoctoral training at the Max-Planck-Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried, Germany, she established her research group at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (now the Francis Crick Institute), before moving to Uppsala University, Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Mission statement<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr M\u00e4kinen and collaborators are focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate the lymphatic vasculature in development, homeostasis and disease.
