SUMMARY:The new cardiobiology 2026
DESCRIPTION:Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of human mortality\, and despite an active research community many of the underlying mechanisms are unknown. Open questions surround molecular triggers\, the relationship of GxE\, impact of epigenetics\, the role of sex\, inflammation and microbiome\, as well as metabolism and multi-organ links in cardiovascular disease. Advanced molecular and human-mimicking tissue engineering techniques are revolutionizing the way we approach cardiovascular discovery research. These developments led to the inaugural “The new cardiobiology” meeting at EMBL in 2024.In light of further technical advances in the field\, the conference will repeat in 2026 and seek to unite speakers across cardiac and vascular biology\, tissue engineering as well as systems biology to continue studying cardiovascular disease. \nSession topics\n\nCardiovascular regeneration\nNovel 3D multicellular systems\nCardiometabolic complications\nMulti-organ disease\nNew translational breakthroughs\n\n\nOrganisers: \n\nJohannes Backs\nHeidelberg University\, Germany \nRoger Foo\nNational University of Singapore\, Singapore \nKristina Haase\nEMBL Barcelona\, Spain \nSara S. SUMMARY:GRC on Angiogenesis
DESCRIPTION:Angiogenesis and Social Interactions with Neighboring Cells and Tissues in Health and Disease\nJuly 27 – August 1\, 202\nChair: Karina Yaniv\nVice Chair: Anne Eichmann\n\nApplication Information\n\n Applications for this meeting must be submitted by June 29\, 2025. Please apply early\, as some meetings become oversubscribed (full) before this deadline. If the meeting is    oversubscribed\, it will be stated here. Note: Applications for oversubscribed meetings will only be considered by the conference chair if more seats become available due to cancellation \nConference Description \nThe Angiogenesis GRC is a premier\, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research\, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide\, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities\, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks\, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages\, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field. \nThe 2025 Angiogenesis GRC and GRS address the underlying hypothesis that angiogenesis relies on intricate crosstalk with various cell types and tissues\, which influence blood vessel function. Conversely\, endothelial cells secrete organotypic angiocrine factors that control and maintain tissue homeostasis\, hence understanding these interactions is important for tissue regeneration and for treating diseases involving aberrant vascularization. The meeting will stimulate the generation of new knowledge by providing brainstorming opportunities for scientists of different fields (vascular\, cardiac\, immune\, stem cell\, and neurobiology) who do not often attend the same conferences and by fostering the exchange of new unpublished data and ideas\, to jump-start collaborations that will move the field forward and shift paradigms.

SUMMARY:EMBO Workshop > Building networks 2024: engineering in vascular biology
DESCRIPTION:Conference overview\nBlood vessels are essential for the formation and maintenance of larger tissues and organs. The vascular system regulates exchange of oxygen\, nutrients and immune cells – the dysfunction of which can cause severe pathologies. Mouse models\, genetics and histology of human samples\, coupled with recent advances in imaging\, single-cell approaches and computational modelling\, have provided significant knowledge to the field of vascular biology. Yet\, in vivo models are highly complex and often need to be combined with simpler in vitro studies to get mechanistic and molecular insights. \nGrowth of in vitro blood vessels presents numerous research challenges due to their complex 3D geometry\, and a strong coupling between biology and mechanics.\nRecent advances in microfluidic and 3D bioprinting offer a higher degree of control over design\, system components and biological function. \nWith the emergence and consolidation of these technologies\, together with human iPS cell technologies\, the vascular biology field is starting to model vascularized tissues and human vascular diseases in vitro. \nIn this meeting\, we intend to bring together vascular biologists and bioengineers from across the world to build research synergies to tackle long standing questions in the field of vascular biology. \n  \nMore info

SUMMARY:EMBO Workshop > The new cardiobiology
DESCRIPTION:Conference overview\nThe cardiovascular system is a multicellular and disseminated organ consisting of the heart\, a network of vessels and circulating blood\, thereby forming an intricately interdependent system\, whose dysfunction is the leading cause of human mortality. Despite translational progress with impactful new interventional and pharmacological therapies\, cardiovascular dysfunction continues to plague mankind. \nThe current therapeutic approaches are either organ-centric or tackle the consequences of end-stage cardiovascular disease (CVD). New basic research approaches are focused on a deeper understanding of the causes and early development of CVD to identify mechanisms close to the root of the disease\, providing the promise to prevent\, halt\, and reverse the disease process. In parallel\, new tissue engineering and mechanobiology approaches are revolutionizing cardiovascular discovery research and disease modeling by more closely mimicking the human situation. However\, these are largely separated research communities\, with yet little crosstalk or exchange between the two. This new EMBO Workshop aims to transform the established organ-centric view on single cardiovascular organs into a systems biomedicine approach by tearing down the walls between disciplines and moving on to discussion of the cardiovascular system with an inter-\, trans-\, and cross-disciplinary approach. \nSession topics\n\nWhere developmental biology meets cardiovascular engineering\nWhere engineering meets cardiovascular regeneration\nWhere cardiomyocyte biology meets immunology\nWhere cardiomyocyte biology meets vascular biology\nWhere cardiovascular biology meets mechanobiology\nMolecular circuits of heart disease\n\n  \nMore info
